چکیده

We reinterpret the scanning-probe Raman spectra shown in the above paper [C.C. Neacsu et al., Phys. Rev. B 73, 193406 (2006)] and compare it to a variety of single-molecule surface-enhanced Raman (SER) studies. The observed blinking behaviour and spectral features must be attributed to carbon contaminations rather than to Malachite Green (MG) single molecules, because, under the given experimental conditions, the extremely high field enhancement of 5 x 10 will inevitably lead to a quick (photo)decomposition of the adsorbate.

Tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy: near-fields acting on a few molecules.

Tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) is a very powerful variant of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). In a sense, TERS overcomes most of the drawbacks of SERS but keeps its advantages, such as its high sensitivity. TERS offers the additional advantages of high spatial resolution, much beyond the Abbe limit, and the possibility to correlate TER and other scanning probe microscope imag...

A single molecule as a probe of optical intensity distribution.

Single terrylene molecules embedded in microscopic p-terphenyl crystals are identified with the technique of fluorescence excitation spectroscopy. By use of the architecture of a scanning-probe microscope at T = 1.4 K , a single molecule is scanned through an excitation laser beam while the fluorescence signal is recorded. In this manner we have mapped the intensity distribution in a one-dimens...

Probe enhanced, nano-Raman spectroscopy (PERS); A sensitive technique for vibrational surface spectroscopy

Vibrational spectroscopy, which is considered one of the most definitive means of obtaining chemical bonding information, often has a low measurement sensitivity preventing its application to the study of interfaces and monolayers. Surface plasmons induced on metal nano-particles by electromagnetic radiation (e.g. light) can be used to enhance the sensitivity and spatial resolution (below the o...

Nanofibers with excellent activities in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) were developed through electrospinning precursor suspensions consisting of polyacrylonitrile (PAN), silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), silicon nanoparticles (SiNPs), and cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs). Rheology of the precursor suspensions, and morphology, thermal properties, chemical structures, and SERS sensitivity of ...
